Jeanne Silverthorne to Speak December 2 as part of Pratt Institute’s 2008-2009 Visiting Artist Lecture Series

Artist Jeanne Silverthorne will speak at Pratt Institute about her artwork and career from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., Tuesday, December 2, in the Engineering Building, Room 371, on Pratt’s Brooklyn Campus. The lecture is free and open to the public. The Pratt Visiting Artists Lecture Series is an annual year-long series organized by the Department of Fine Arts in the School of Art and Design at Pratt Institute to welcome nationally and internationally recognized fine artists to share their experiences with the Pratt community.

SFMOMA Presents a Retrospective on Sculptor Martin Puryear

From November 8, 2008, to January 25, 2009, the San Francisco Museum of
Modern Art (SFMOMA) presents Martin Puryear, a major exhibition of sculpture
by the acclaimed American artist. The retrospective features 47 sculptures
that chart the development of Puryear’s career over the last 30 years, from
his first solo show in 1977 to the present day.

The 2009 winner of Europe’s most valuable art award, the Roswitha Haftmann Prize, is the American artist Vija Celmins.

Vija Celmins is the winner of the Carnegie Prize 2008

We are pleased to announce that the Carnegie Prize for 2008 was awarded to Vija Celmins during the opening of the Carnegie international on May 2. Richard Armstrong, director of the Carnegie Museum, presented Ms. Celmins with this prestigious medal in a ceremony at the opening in Pittsburgh.
