Leonid Lerman: Casting Shadows

OPENING RECEPTION: FEBRUARY 25, 2010, 6-8pm

The McKee Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent sculpture and drawings by LEONID LERMAN, from February 25 through April 3.

The new work takes Lerman’s earlier integration of man physically supporting his alter ego to more complex levels of figurative combinations. We see abstractions of bodies lost in the shadow of half light and the darkness of night, captured in that elusive moment between chaos and order, liquidity and crystallization.
The powerful rhythms of writhing forms insinuate a nocturnal mystery and link between acts of love and acts of violence.

Leonid Lerman was born in Odessa, Ukraine, in 1953. He attended the Odessa School of Art and graduated later from the celebrated V. I. Moukhina School of Art and Design in St. Petersburg. In 1980 he emigrated to New York where he has frequently exhibited at the McKee Gallery.

A survey of Leonid Lerman’s work was organized by the Freedman Gallery at Albright College, Reading, Pennsylvania.
